I always wanted to write a book about how to bring a thought into market. So as i bring this idea to reality. I'll go over the different steps that I'm going through as I progress.
First things first, I had an idea I’d been working off and on for the last two or three years. It's a new dog leash / harness. I use to live in 3 story building with nothing but lofts and a lot of my neighbors had dogs and so came this idea.
I thought of a catchy name last month and bought a domain name @ ( www.godaddy.com), so I can get some sort of brand / name recognition, when people talk about it. I bought 2, however after talking with an advertiser I use here and there. She liked one better than the other. That was a week or two ago.
Last week I started with me being the manufacturer (I can't stress the importance, of when you have an idea - try and make a prototype with how you envisioned it would be). Research and making calls to different suppliers, often helps in ways you wouldn't expect just by talking to someone.
For me: I didn't want the leash to be sewn (something I don’t know how to do), I thought I would be able to make it in house. I started looking up grommets and gave a company a call, would grommets be strong enough to hold up against the pulling of a dog. Well I was calling the nylon strap I wanted to use "nylon strap" and the lady on the other end of the line said "I think you guys call it webbing" / meaning people that produce leashes and harnesses. Let her know I had no idea I’m just starting, but I'll look "webbing" up and thanks.
THAT WAS MY FIRST LEAD & the only one I would need
To me knowing more of what I should know about when I talk about making the leash / for the simple fact I spent two days on the web before that call, looking for nylon strips.
However, webbing & nylon webbing got me in the door with my searches on the first search. That was last week.
I spent a good week looking for the webbing on the streets locally / none of the fabric stores around here had it. I finally found some in a furniture remodeling store and as for the grommets I thought I was going to use to connect the nylon straps - Got lost in the “nylon webbing” searches.
I found a manufacturer that does it all in house (www.strapworks.com) and now my leash will be sewn as well. I sent in a couple of drawings and pictures of what it’s supposed to look like, when assembled.
It took around two and a half weeks to get this together / I paid for the production of the prototype 11/08/10 (under $40) & now I'm waiting for prototype to be made and sent to me.
I spent around $120 all together in misc. purchases, gas and stuff like that. I'm cool with that because people might think it's a good product, which will result into sales.
Today August 2021, Alpha Harness has a U S A manufacturer & Alpha Harness has the ability to offer
private label licensing as well as, working on a more eye-catching look for site and Alpha Harness,
